What to Expect During Your First Psychiatric Visit
Starting psychiatric care can feel intimidating if you don't know what to expect. Here's a guide to help you prepare for telehealth.
Starting psychiatric care can feel intimidating if you don't know what to expect. Many people worry about saying the 'right' things or wonder how telehealth works.
The first visit is typically focused on understanding your concerns. Your PMHNP may ask about current symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, medications, and your goals for care.
This conversation helps your provider develop an accurate clinical picture and discuss whether evaluation, medication management, or other psychiatric services may be appropriate.
It's also an opportunity for you to ask questions — about the process, telehealth logistics, follow-up timing, and what collaborative care looks like.
Psychiatric care is a collaborative process. Building trust takes time, and you can share information at a pace that feels comfortable.
All visits at our practice are conducted via secure telehealth. We do not offer in-person office sessions.
