Anxiety is more than occasional worry. For many people, it feels like a constant sense of dread, restlessness, or physical tension that does not match the situation in front of them.

Physical signs may include a racing heart, shortness of breath, muscle tightness, headaches, or stomach upset. Some people describe feeling shaky, sweaty, or on edge without knowing why.

Mentally, anxiety can mean racing thoughts, difficulty concentrating, irritability, or catastrophic thinking — imagining worst-case outcomes repeatedly.

Behaviorally, anxiety often leads to avoidance: skipping events, procrastinating, or checking things repeatedly to feel temporarily safer.

When these symptoms persist most days for weeks or longer and interfere with work, sleep, or relationships, a psychiatric evaluation can clarify whether you are experiencing an anxiety disorder and what treatment options — including telehealth care — may help.
