GAD involves persistent, excessive worry across many areas of life. Learn how it is evaluated and treated.

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is characterized by chronic worry about health, work, relationships, finances, or everyday matters — often with difficulty controlling the worry.

Symptoms may include restlessness, fatigue, concentration problems, irritability, muscle tension, and sleep disturbance.

GAD often develops gradually and may coexist with depression or other anxiety disorders.

Diagnosis requires a clinical interview — not a single questionnaire. Your PMHNP reviews duration, severity, and functional impact.

Treatment may include SSRIs, SNRIs, buspirone, therapy, and lifestyle strategies. Telehealth psychiatric care makes ongoing monitoring more accessible for many patients.
